Getting Started with Lumen AI: Monitor Your Brand in 5 Steps
Most brands don't know they're invisible in AI until a competitor shows up instead. Lumen AI is the fastest way to find out exactly where your brand stands in ChatGPT and Gemini — and track changes week over week. Here's how to get started in five steps.
What Lumen AI Tracks and Why It Matters
Lumen AI monitors how large language models respond when someone asks questions in your category. For every prompt you add, Lumen runs the query in ChatGPT and Gemini, detects whether your brand is mentioned, records your rank among named brands, and logs your Share of Voice against competitors. Over time, you build a weekly baseline that shows whether your GEO efforts are working.
Step 1: Create Your Account and Set Up Your Brand
Go to getlumen.lat and sign up with Google OAuth — no credit card required during the free trial. Once inside, open Settings and enter your brand name, website, and the country or region you operate in. This context helps Lumen frame prompts accurately and compare your performance against local competitors.
Step 2: Build Your First Set of Monitoring Prompts
Prompts are the questions your target buyers type into ChatGPT or Gemini. A good starting set covers three angles: category queries (what tools exist in your space), comparison queries (your brand vs. competitors), and problem-solution queries (how to solve the exact problem you solve). Start with 10–15 prompts.
- Category entry: 'What is the best [your category] in [your country]?'
- Brand comparison: '[Your brand] vs [Competitor]? Which is better?'
- Problem-solution: 'How do I [solve the problem you solve] for a [your size] company?'
- Trust signal: 'Is [your brand] reliable?'
- Sector-specific: 'What [tool / service] do [startups / SMBs / fintechs] use in [city]?'
Step 3: Add Your Competitors
Go to the Competitors section and add 3–5 brands that regularly appear when you test your category in ChatGPT or Gemini. Lumen will track their mention rate, average rank, and Share of Voice alongside yours. This gives you a benchmark: if your Share of Voice is 15% and a competitor's is 40%, you know the gap you're closing.
Step 4: Run Your First Analysis
Click 'Run Now' on any prompt group or let Lumen run on its automatic weekly schedule. For each prompt, Lumen queries both ChatGPT and Gemini, parses the response for brand mentions, extracts rank position, and saves the results to your history. Your first run establishes a baseline — you'll see your Visibility Score (0–100) for each prompt.
Step 5: Read the Dashboard and Act on the Data
Your dashboard shows four key metrics. Visibility Score is your headline number — 100 means ranked #1, 50 means ranked #2. Mention Rate shows how often you appear across all prompts. Share of Voice is your percentage of all brand mentions. Average Rank tells you where you land among named brands when you do appear. Use gaps here as your content priority list.
- 1Visibility Score = 0: You're not being mentioned in this prompt at all. Publish a direct-answer FAQ page targeting the exact query.
- 2Visibility Score < 33: You appear but rank below #3. Earn 2–3 more authority site citations naming your brand for this query type.
- 3Visibility Score 33–66: You're in the middle of the pack. Audit what the #1 brand published and fill the content gap.
- 4Visibility Score > 66: You're near the top. Focus on maintaining citation freshness and monitoring for competitor displacement.
- 5Share of Voice drop > 10 points: A competitor gained ground. Check Competitor Comparison to find which brand displaced you and on which prompts.
What to Do After Your First Week of Monitoring
After your first week, you'll have a ranked list of your worst-performing prompts. These are the queries where buyers are finding your competitors instead of you. For each zero-visibility prompt, publish a piece of citation-ready content — a direct-answer FAQ, a comparison page, or a case study — that names your brand in the answer. Then monitor for 4–6 weeks to see your Visibility Score improve.
